Legacy Data Migration Toolset

Our company has been involved in numerous data conversion efforts throughout our history. In doing so we have developed a toolset to reduce the time and effort required to properly map and convert legacy data from one system to another. This tool has been designed to significantly reduce the amount of analysis and programming typically involved in data conversion project. We have found that 70 percent or more of the programming effort is removed when using our toolset to migrate legacy or disparate data into the target system.

The HG DataMapper toolset was designed to free up the conversion specialist to focus solely on the task with minimal effort required for coding. This in essence provides a platform for the anylist to perform many of the same tasks traditionally required by developers to load legacy data from the source to the target. With this application the analyst can produce the mapping specifications while at the same time building the conversion path. In essence our application functions much like a data modeler but with the functionality to migrate data between two seperate systems.


It was a joy to sit down with a single application and analyze data structures and data from both applications then quickly build data mapping model that would transfer data between the source and target systems.

Our tool allows the data conversion specialist to utilize inherent RDBMS syntax in both source and target to build robust mapping models. In addition, there are built in functions that can be used to perform in-process conversions on data as it is being transferred between systems. It also contains a scripting IDE which allows VB and Java scripting to perform more complex conversions. So with these combined features the possibilities are unlimited.

The application also includes the ability to decompose the source and target schemas which allows the mapping architect to review the data structures without leaving the application.

Benefits

Resource requirements are significanly reduced due to the user friendly interface and robust underlying tools and functionality built into the application. With this application the anylist becomes the developer for the majority of the conversion effort. Since there is little need for actual programming the analyst can perform most if not all of the effort.

Since our application capitalizes on functionality from three sources, Source, Target RDBMS and integrated functions, it allows the data conversion analyst to take advantage of unique capabilities from every realm.

Our application provides the atchitect with integrated back-end tools such as SQL editor, scripting engine and schema decomposer. These tools provide the architect with a wide range of capabilities that typically required numerous applications to achieve the same end.

Since our tool does not require code generation it allows the mapping model to be quickly altered and re-executed to correct inaccuracies in the mapping model.

If desired the application can generate SQL scripts based on the mapping model which can be executed through the native SQL engine provided by your RDBMS or third party vendor(s).
